haunting

I just watched the Painted Veil for the first time last night and I thought it was a great film. One of my new favorites. The scenery alone (filmed in Guiling and Guangxi, China) was sublime. Add great acting from Edward Norton and Naomi Watts on top of that. I loved how well both of them played their roles, especially Edward Norton, my favorite line is where he says to Kitty,

I knew when I married you that you were selfish and spoiled. But I loved you. I knew you only married me to get as far away from your mother as possible. And I hoped that one day...there'd be something more.

I loved how throughout the movie you alternate between loving and hating the main characters, they are played with so much depth. The music is also beautiful, with piano pieces by Lang Lang and the prettiest French song, "A La Claire Fontaine".

I saw this movie on the airplane and I cried and cried! oh I was so sad when well you know, but I don't want to spoil it for others. I think I cried because she really did love him! (I really felt silly crying on the airplane!!)

If you like wicked scenery, rent The White Diamond (herzog documentary). I saw it this weekend and was like WHAT? Amazing.
