Faun and John

I love this picture of my Grandma and Grandpa Ord. I'm so glad my mom took the time to scan in her family pictures!

one chair, four rooms

I save pictures of rooms I like and I was recently going through a few of my favorites and found one very similar chair in 4 rooms. I like the dark grey room with bright table and chairs and the way the room looks modern but warm. I like the second room because it's a little more cottage with modern touches, and I would love to have a cozy windowseat like that one day. The third room is pretty because it's so subdued, but then there's this one bright orange chair that stands out. I love lots of stuff about the last room, the ceiling-high bookshelves, with a ladder, and the red locker console. I need to start going to flea markets to find a chair like this.

chick lit

Fuzzy little easter chicks are one of my favorite things, that's why I like Sloan Tanen's book's so much. They make me laugh, she gives them attitude!

donkey in the desert

This picture reminded me of something I had totally forgotten. I was in college, home for the summer, and I went to the lake with the Cunninghams (who were always nice enough to take us boat-less families out every now and then). We were leaving the lake on the curvy, windy road, and we came around the bend and almost hit this Donkey! It was walking along the side of the road in the middle of the desert in no hurry, going nowhere. I found this picture and this is almost exactly what it looked like. You gotta love the Arizona desert.

I've had this movie clattering around in my purse for the last two months, tonight I finally watched it, and I loved it! Watch it, you'll like it!

Chicago art institute

Mahana no Atua - Paul Gaugin

For our anniversary, Jim gave me a membership to the Art Institute of Chicago. They have an amazing website where you can see almost their entire collection. I spent a whole day there before I started my job and these are only a few of my favorites that I was able to take decent pictures of.
I'm not sure of the artist, but I love this painting, the bright house under the dark spooky trees.
Lemons on a Pewter Plate - Matisse

Icebound - Twachtman

This last painting is fitting...I feel icebound! The snow melts and re-freezes, so we're left with gray ice everywhere. I've been in denial lately that winter is still in full force, and I've been walking the dog without gloves or a hat. When will it end so I can clean the salt off my shoes and put my puffy jacket in storage??

it's business time!

Tomorrow night we are going to see these guys, they are doing a concert at Northwestern and Jim and his friends waited in line early in the morning to get us tickets.

Awwwhh yeah!

the movie font

I saw a funny video about a font. I think you will get a kick out of the video.

handbound journal

I just got this at dick blick and I'm looking forward to filling it with doodles. The great thing about it is that the pages are thicker, so you could watercolor in it.

I also found this great copic pen, which has an aluminum body, so cool. It's a little more expensive than the average pen, but the great part about it is that you can buy ink refills and replacement nibs so it ends up costing less in the long run.
