Aren't Kent Rogowski's bears interesting? Here's the description from his website:

Bears, is a series of portraits of the most unusual sort: ordinary teddy bears that have been turned inside out and restuffed. Each animal's appearance is determined by the necessities of the manufacturing process. Simple patterns and devices never meant to be seen are now prominent physical characteristics, giving each one a distinctly quirky personality: their fasteners become eyes, their seams become scars, and their stuffing creeps out in the most unexpected places. Together these images form a topology of strange yet oddly familiar creatures. They are at once hideous yet cuddly, disturbing yet endearing, absurd yet adorable, while offering a metaphor for us all to consider.

hole-y shoes

There is an interesting article in the NY Times about skateboarders and their shoes. My favorite part of the article is when Mike Valley talkes about a skateboarder looking down at his feet, he says, "they need to feel a vibe there". The article goes on to say:

"Ultimately, it can be counterproductive to give one feature more importance than another. If the shoe is just amazing to look at, it is probably not going to hold up in performance.

But if it is made to stand up to aggressive wear and tear, it might also look something like Fort Knox.

And who wants to wear a fortress — particularly while trying to catch that special vibe while floating through the air?"

My husband grew up skateboarding with his friends in Alamo, CA. He used to spend his paper-route money on new shoes, which he ordered COD from Skates on Haight. His buddies would take Bart into SF to skate along the bay, and get a free lunch at their dad's offices. I've seen the videos at his parents house.

I think these terrariums from Paula Hayes are pretty cool. How did she manage to get everything inside of the second one?? I don't think you can buy them, but they are certainly good inspiration for your own succulent or cactus garden.

Has anyone seen the latest sneak peek at design sponge? It's of Kelly Osborne from See Jane Work...where I would love to shop for office supplies if I had the moola. I really love the bright green armoire in their living room, and the built in bookshelves.

nightmare

Last night my sleep was disturbed by a bad dream. I dreamt that when I went in to work, my old boss had come back. And I had a HUGE fight with her, and I ended up telling her that she was the worst boss I'd ever had. Then I realized I'd have to keep working with her, and tried to take it back....but it was too late! It was so real that when I woke up, I could feel that old dread of going into work. But she did quit, and I'm here at work, and it was all just a dream.

living my dream

I just read this post on design sponge about Lindsay Laricks, and I was so excited. She has her OWN shaved ice stand!! I love shaved ice and all frozen treats so much, but shaved ice is extra special, I went probably 10 times to my favorite stand on our honeymoon in Kauai. We even planned a hiking trip back there 3 years later...and deep down inside, I think I wanted to go back for more shaved ice. At one time Jim even looked on ebay for shaved ice machines (the good ones are very expensive). So Lindsay's pretty awesome in my book, for making her own traveling gourmet shaved ice stand.

I thought this skit that opened SNL last week was hilarious. Tina Fey's impersonation is dead-on!

I'll take my icecream in a bag please...

For last week's scouting activity, the scouts made icecream in a bag. I didn't get to stay to see them do it, but Ronni gave me a bag to take home, and I finally made it tonight, and it was YUMMY! Here's the recipe:

1 cup half-and-half cream
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups coarsely crushed ice cubes
3/4 cup salt

In a small resealable plastic bag, combine the cream, sugar and vanilla. Press out air and seal. In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the ice and salt; add the sealed small bag. Seal the large bag; place in another large resealable plastic bag and seal. Shake and knead for 5-7 minutes or until cream mixture is thickened. Serve immediately or freeze.

calling cards

I love these calling cards from Avie Designs, they are so cute! Right now I have the most adorable business cards for my job at the Land of Nod designed by Michael Mabry(I remember interviewing for my job, and when the interviewer's gave me thier cards I thought, "I would work here just so I could get a business card like this"). If I didn't have a formal job though, I would get these. (found on Design Sponge)
